Love Poems on Trees
In celebration of the Shakespeare Gild's 2010 production of "As You Like It," you are invited to post your love poems in the Arden Woods, now through the opening of the play on June 18. Below are three found near and on the way to Indian Circle. More will be added as they are found. There are rules for these poems, though love rules us all.

To “Rosalind”* of Arden
When, sometimes, I am at my best,
You almost seem to like me,
Your smile and words so warm
Cause me to shiver with delight.
But sometimes I am down;
I may be tired, unkempt,
Preoccupied, feeling old – Please,
“Rosalind”,* don’t break the spell!
Next time you see me
Imagine that you like me, and
I’ll come out of the doldrums
And may appear a bit attractive.
I promise that I’ll smile at you;
Even on your “bad-hair days”
I’ll focus on your words,
or eyes, or heart,
The inner you.
Let’s spread love around the Ardens!
Love should not be limited
Could you and I pretend
That we are secret all-round lovers?
* I keep your real name secret
Poem #2 (near Indian Circle)
On our first encounter
casually at your door
your fiery dark eyes
set my whole body ablaze
Work in the woods
kept us apart; --
the wood was too wet anyway
The years cooled
your fire somewhat,
but I kept my wood dry,
it would easily flare up again.
Poem #3
Many years ago.
When green concerns
Were on no one’s mind
You and I agreed
We should save water.
We would take
A shower together:
You’d say when
and I’d say where.
But so far
It still hasn’t
Happened.
I’m still waiting.
And yet we need
To save water
Even more! – –
WHEN?
???
