Revolution, I Love You
Revolution, I Love You, like the 1968 Paris Student Uprising that inspired the band's name, is a volatile mix of impulses that come together in a joyous riot of sound. Their music is an eclectic blend of indie rock and dance beats: "[It] may be relatively indescribable, but that doesn’t mean it’s not also mighty fine. Revolution, I Love You’s overall effect might just restore your faith in rock & roll." (AudioXposure)
http://goo.gl/wWugS

Still Moon Servants
"Great band! If Neil Young and Dinosaur Jr and the Allman brothers splashed their sonic DNA into a petri dish, this three piece dynamo would result. Great riff, great energy and cool tunes. Check them out!"

David Johansen

$25 Guests Here, $20 Members (email us)

dj

David Johansen is one of the most influential singers, songwriters and band leaders in rock and roll history. He will perform an evening of his classic songs and great covers in an acoustic duo performance. From the classic albums of the New York Dolls, which presaged the New Wave and Punk movements in the 70s, to his great solo career, his film acting work, his hilarious and fun years as Buster Poindexter, to his great folk song series with the Harry Smiths, David Johansen has remained unique and always relevant. His recent reforming of the New York Dolls included an album hailed as best of the year by Robert Christgau. We are thrilled to welcome one of the greats in rock history to Gild Hall for an intimate evening of music.

Hoots & Hellmouth

Saturday March 3, 2012 - 8 PM

$12 Guests here, $10 Members  - email us

hh

Hoots & Hellmouth are a busy bunch. Road warriors to the bitter end, they've somehow found time to enter the studio twice in the last year to produce two records showcasing their forward-thinking roots/soul music. Their latest offering, the full-length Salt (street date 10/4/11), was recorded in their hometown of Philadelphia at Miner Street Studios with friend/engineer Jon Low (Dr. Dog, Sharon Van Etten, Twin Sister). The result speaks volumes to the evolution of a band committed to pushing their boundaries and exploring new sonic horizons.

The Horse Flies

Friday March 9, 2012 - 8 PM

$18 Guests here, $15 Members  - email us

hf

After a thrilling 2009 show we have had frequent requests for the return of this Ithaca NY based band! A longtime favorite of critics and fans, but a pigeonholer's nightmare, The Horse Flies blend Americana roots with indie rock, ethnic percussion, creative songwriting, and a fierce, percolating groove. With a love of both the traditional and the modern, The Flies have consistently explored the intersection of the two to create a musical world all their own. Part trance-inducing minimalism, achieved through a neo-primitive approach to fiddle music, and part folk-rock American gothic, achieved through emotive singing and haunting, original songs, The Flies' music is recognized for its intensity, quirkiness, poetry, and skill. In 2008 The Horse Flies released Until the Ocean, their first new album in a number of years. It's received positive attention throughout the U.S. and internationally. Influential radio station KCRW, in Los Angeles, featured the album as a top new release and chose the song "14 Reasons" as a "Top Tune," an honor given recently to such artists as Aimee Mann, Neko Case, Fleet Foxes, Damian Rice, and Jamie Lidell.

The Bad Plus

Saturday March 31 2012 at 8 PM

$30 here and $25 members (Members email us)

As their website says.

For the past 10 years The Bad Plus have created an uncompromising body of work by shattering musical convention. Rolling Stone called their amalgam of jazz, pop, rock and avant garde "about as badass as highbrow gets," while The New York Times said the band is "better than anyone at mixing the sensibilities of post-'60s jazz and indie rock." Few jazz groups in recent memory have amassed such acclaim, and few have generated as much controversy while audaciously bucking musical trends.
We say - see them in 2009 at the Clifford Brown?  See them in 2012 in Arden!
